We are delighted to welcome you to our class page . Our Class Teacher is Miss Bedell, and our Teaching Assistant is Mr Hardcastle
Class 1 is a very special place as it is the first class your child will join when they start their school journey in Reception and we then look forward to another magical year in Year 1! Our days are filled with lots of exciting learning opportunities, where we can explore hands-on, practical activities within indoor and outdoor provision areas, daily phonics, literacy, maths and a wealth of wider curriculum experiences.

Homework Projects

Phonics and Early Reading
We follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised complete systematic synthetic phonics scheme to teach phonics and early reading and this begins in Reception. Please see below a progression overview for the year as well as some handy resources and helpful videos to help you understand more about the scheme and how to support your children at home.

Reading for Pleasure
We value reading for pleasure highly and work hard as a school to grow our Reading for Pleasure pedagogy. We read to children every day, choosing these books carefully as we want children to experience a wealth of quality texts.
- Our classroom has an inviting book corner that encourages a love for reading.
- In Class 1, children have access to the reading corner every day in their free flow time and the books are refreshed to match current learning, topics and interests.
- The children also take home Sharing Books weekly which they select from a range of non-fiction, fiction and poetry books in school. We encourage families to enjoy these books together and value this experience of quality time together with a good book.
- Children also have regular opportunities to engage with Reading for Pleasure events such as World Book Day or National Poetry Day.

We got together as a school to have a fire safety talk from RAF MJenwith Hill, where we got to meet Sparky the dog, who helped show us what to do in the case of a fire. It was both informative and great fun!

We had a great time at the church with Father Paul, who helped us learn more about Baptism.
Our Hindu Workshop
We were so lucky to have The Indian Experience come and deliver a Hindu Workshop with us. This amazing experience helped us to understand Indian traditions, and we got to do so many exciting activites such as; dressing up in Traditional Indian Clothing, Bollywood Dancing and creating Rangoli Artwork! We had the best day!
World Book Day
